The event is centered at the Tulip Hill Picnic Area in Green Lakes State Park. It includes multiple fixed-distance trail races and a timed 12-hour event that uses a separate short loop around the lakes.

The fixed-distance course features a mix of single and double track, grassy single track, dirt roads, and some asphalt. Each fixed-distance lap is almost exactly eight miles long. Trails on the upland forest include two ascents and one long descent with roots, ruts, and stones. The upper meadows, called the Serengeti, account for about three miles of each loop and are mostly dirt and grass. The lower lake section is shaded, generally flat, and has some roots. Overall the course favors runnable trail sections with limited technical hiking.

Race format notes and amenities are provided on race day. The 12-hour event uses a clockwise, approximately 3-mile loop around Green and Round Lakes where participants complete as many laps as possible in the timed period. The event offers two stocked aid stations and one unmanned water drop so participants are generally within 3.75 miles of the next aid. The course is marked, including turns and confidence markers every 100 to 200 meters.

Registered entrants who sign up at least 14 days before the race are eligible for a race shirt; small sizes are offered but cannot be exchanged for larger sizes on race day. Finishers receive a medal and a cup or pint glass plus a bumper sticker. Podium finishers and top female finishers are recognized, and first-place age-group winners will be acknowledged in multiple age divisions including Ambassadors (70 and older). There will be a raffle with one ticket provided per registered entrant and additional tickets available for purchase.
