The lake and adjacent trail system include a 250 acre freshwater lake, a 7.5 mile main route along the lake, and about 8 miles of additional trails in Salem Forest. The loop route is composed of roughly 75% single track with dirt, roots, rocks, and wooden bridges, 20% forest road, and 5% crushed gravel along the dam. Some mud and wet sections may be present depending on conditions. Each lap accumulates about 500 feet of elevation gain and loss.

Two aid stations are provided: the main staffed aid station at the park entrance on Camp Cosoma Road with warm food and drinks and restroom facilities, and a second station near the Salem Forest parking on Indian Bridge Road with food, drink, and a porta potty. Drop bags may be left at the Salem Forest station but that station may not be staffed continuously. A GPX route file and trail markings are available for navigation.

The event is limited to 100 participants. During the event the trails remain open to the public and may include mountain bikers, walkers, leashed pets, and horseback riders. Day use parking is managed by an automated gate with a credit card entry fee of $3 for Maryland residents and an additional $2 for out-of-state vehicles.
