Sabino Canyon Sunset Run : 7.4 Mile and 2 Mile Fun Run/Walk
The event is held at Sabino Canyon in the Coronado National Forest near Tucson, Arizona. Two distances are offered:
- 7.4 mile race on the paved main tram road into the canyon
- 2 mile fun run/walk out and back on the tram road
The 7.4 mile course climbs for roughly the first 3.7 miles along the tram road and returns the same way. Aid stations with water are located at miles 1.7, 3.4, and 5.1. The 2 mile course goes one mile into the canyon and returns the same way; there will be no aid station on this course so participants should carry their own water.
Entries are online only and each distance has a participant cap; once a distance reaches its limit no further registrations are accepted. The event policy states no transfers, no refunds, and no deferrals. Runners in the 7.4 mile race must maintain a sub 19 minute per mile pace and meet course cutoff points at the turnaround and a later aid station or they will be removed from the course for safety reasons.
All registrants receive an event shirt. 7.4 mile finishers receive a finisher medal. The 7.4 mile event includes awards for overall and age-group placings and some awards include gift certificates. Food and refreshments such as pizza, Eegees, and snacks are provided at the finish. Proceeds benefit Friends of Sabino Canyon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
