Alpine Challenge
The Alpine Challenge is a mountain trail running event held in Falls Creek, Victoria. The event base is located at Slalom Plaza. This mountain run features a variety of distances to accommodate different experience levels, ranging from short trail runs to an ultra-endurance miler.
The 160 km (100 mile) course is a Hardrock Hundred Mile Endurance Run qualifier. Participants who finish this distance within the required parameters may enter the Hardrock lottery for the subsequent two years. This specific route includes 7,400 meters of total ascent and descent, traversing several major peaks including Mt Feathertop, Mt Hotham, Mt McKay, Spion Kopje, Mt Nelse, and Mt Bogong, which is the highest mountain in Victoria.
Participants have the following distance options:
- 100 Mile (160 km)
- 100 km
- 60 km
- Marathon
- 25 km
- 10 km
The event is supported by Alpine Search and Rescue, a volunteer organization that provides radio communications, first aid, and search services across the course. Due to the high-altitude environment, participants are advised to prepare for variable weather conditions, including potential snow, storms, and darkness. Mandatory gear and specific qualification requirements apply to the longer distances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
