Runners v Riders is a traditional festive event taking place on 26 December 2025 at Friday Woods, Bounstead Road, Colchester, Essex. Runners and cyclists race head-to-head to compete for the Markham Cup. The event started in the 1930s. The first six finishers, whether runners or cyclists, win the Markham Cup. Entry is limited to 110 places. The listed entry fee is £15 until 21 December 2025.

Course and safety

The route is off-road on a military training ground and is described as very muddy and uneven with ditches and water crossings. The event uses a mass start format. Organisers note there can be collisions between runners and cyclists. Trail trainers are recommended and participants enter at their own risk.

On-the-day registration and number collection are available for both races. Parking at the location is limited and car sharing is suggested. Toilets are available on site but there is no bag drop.
