Event Overview

The RunForJo 2026 takes place at Oakwell Hall and Country Park in Birstall, West Yorkshire. This event serves as a commemorative gathering to celebrate the life and values of Jo Cox, focusing on the message that there is more in common than that which divides us. Organized by MoreInCommon Batley & Spen, the event supports local projects through its proceeds. The 2026 edition marks the tenth and final scheduled occurrence of this gathering.

Course Information

Participants can choose between two main distances on the day:

  • 6.5 km multi-terrain cross country challenge
  • 2.5 km family fun run

The 6.5 km course consists of two laps and features an undulating profile. This route is not suitable for wheelchairs due to the terrain. While the course is marshalled, children under the age of 11 must remain with a responsible adult at all times during the event. An additional Mascots' Race is held later in the morning.

Facilities and Logistics

The Race HQ is located opposite Oakwell Hall on Nutter Lane. Available facilities include toilets, water stations, and distance markers along the route. There is an unsupervised baggage storage area where items must be collected by early afternoon; however, no changing or shower facilities are available on-site.

Participation is limited to 250 runners for the main challenge. Entry must be completed in advance as there is no registration available on the day of the race. Experience a 20 mile trail run or hike through six historic villages in Bury. This supported journey features woodland paths and open meadows with aid stations and guides available throughout the route.

Experience a challenging 14 km fell race through the scenic Chevin Forest Park in Otley. This hilly single lap course features 650 meters of ascent including climbs at Danefield and Miller Lane.

Experience a technical 10 km fell race in Otley featuring 390 metres of climbing through Chevin Forest Park. This single lap course offers steep ascents and wooded loops for up to 200 participants.

Experience a category AM fell race featuring steep climbs and rough descents over a flagged 10.9 km course. This event requires full safety kit and offers team prizes for men and women finishing in the hills near Portsmouth Village.
