Trail Running in Mounds State Park

Run the Mounds takes place in Anderson, Indiana, and offers participants a scenic route through Mounds State Park. The course moves along the river and passes by the ancient Adena Indian Mounds. The event features several distance options over a primarily off-road terrain.

Courses are composed of 92% trail and 8% blacktop. Participants should expect naturally occurring debris on the trails, such as ruts, rocks, stumps, roots, and leaves. Depending on weather conditions, the trails may also contain mud, water hazards, or slippery surfaces. Water stations are positioned at the 1.5 mile and 3.0 mile marks of the course.

The available event categories include:

  • 5 mile run
  • 5 km run
  • 5 km walk
  • 1 mile Kids Fun Run

All participants receive a finisher medal. Special overall medals or plaques are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in the 5 mile run, 5 km run, and 5 km walk. Registration must be completed in advance as there is no day-of sign-up available.

Post-race refreshments are served at the main pavilion. The menu includes chili (with vegan and vegetarian options), bananas, cookies, brownies, chips, and various beverages. Proceeds from the event support park projects and local youth running programs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
