This event is a trail race held on a private deer preserve in Altoona, AL. The course passes through hardwoods and pine stands, crosses streams, goes by lakes, and includes open fields and rolling terrain. Wildlife may be present along the route.
Race options include:
- 2 mile race, one lap, finishers medals.
- 4 mile race, two laps, awards by age group.
- 10 mile race, five laps, capped at 50 participants.
The four mile division awards first place male and female by age groups: 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+. The two mile division recognizes top male and female finishers and provides finishers medals. The ten mile division awards the top five male and female finishers.
The ten mile race includes three single-shot steel targets: pistol at 25 feet on lap two, shotgun at 100 feet on lap three, and rifle at 100 yards on lap four. Penalties are applied for missed shots: 1 minute for pistol, 2 minutes for shotgun, and 3 minutes for rifle. The triple hollow division has a 3.5 hour time limit.
Packet pickup is available on the Friday before the race and on race morning for the shorter divisions; triple hollow participants must pick up their packet on Friday. Safety briefings occur on Friday. Award ceremonies are held separately for the divisions. Results can be posted automatically to Twitter if a participant connects an account.
