James & George Collie 15 Mile Trail Race

The event is a measured 15 mile trail race held on Balmoral Estate on Sunday 2 May 2027. The route starts near Balmoral Castle and follows sections adjacent to the River Dee before climbing through the Ballochbuie pine forest. Around mile eight the course leaves the river and rises toward the base of Lochnagar, with roughly 120 metres of ascent overall. The final three miles descend back toward the castle and include a notable finish section described by the organisers.

The surface is mostly Land Rover track; the last mile can be muddy. The route goes into exposed country and conditions may include wind, rain or snow. There are distance markers at every mile and two water stations positioned at Connachat House. Toilets are available at the start and finish but not on the course. Male and female changing tents are provided; there are no showers. Massage will be available near the information tent.

Entry details: price is £29 (£27 for Scottish Athletics members). Entries close on 7 April or sooner if the race sells out. All entrants must be at least 18 years old on race day. Entry includes a finisher's medal, electronic timing and a downloadable finisher's certificate; free parking is provided on the day. The maximum finish time for the 15 mile race is 3.5 hours. Headphones are not permitted except bone conduction devices, allowed at the runner's own risk. Transfers between races are not possible.
