Rueter-Hess Trail Incline
Location: Parker, CO, near 13930 Ancestry Dr.
Distances:
- 10k
- Kids 1m
The course uses two lollipop loops with the stick in the middle. From the start there is about 1/3 mile of flattish, smooth trail to the base of a steep incline with stairs spaced about 1.5 strides apart, which makes that section hard to run. After the incline runners go left and continue about 1.4 miles of flat and rolling terrain to the loop. The loop itself is 2.4 miles of mostly smooth rolling trail with a few technical sections. Runners then return to the top of the incline and finish with about 0.5 mile down a steep, smooth dirt path that is separate from the incline. The overall distance is very close to 10 kilometers with about 600 feet of climbing.
The event uses a handicap starting system by age and gender, with starts spread over about 20 minutes. There is water at the start and at points near 1.9 miles and 4.3 miles. A kids race follows the same incline up and the same steep smooth descent, covers about 1 mile, and allows parents or others to accompany youngsters; all kids receive a finishing ribbon. Awards go to the top ten finishers across the line with the handicap starts, plus fastest female and male net times and the oldest and youngest finisher. Light snacks are available at the finish. Volunteers help with parking, finish, and aid stations and receive a free entry to a future Run Uphill Racing event. Registration closes Friday, May 29 at 11:59 PM MT.
