Roly's Run
Roly's Run is a trail running event held in the Meon Valley, Hampshire, that uses sections of the South Downs Way and local paths. The event is held in memory of an ultra-runner known as Roly and is organised by CHALK & MUD TRAIL RUNNING LTD. Race headquarters are at Swanmore Village Hall, New Road, Swanmore, Hampshire, SO32 2PF.
Distances offered include:
- 15.5 mile course (463 m ascent)
- 21.5 mile course (712 m ascent)
- 40 mile course (1266 m ascent, 10 hour cut off)
Walkers are welcome on the 15 and 20 mile options, and participants may swap between those two distances on the day. Minimum age limits apply: 17 years for the 15 mile, 18 years for the 20 mile, and 20 years for the 40 mile event.
All courses form a clockwise loop from Swanmore taking in Beacon Hill, Exton and Meonstoke. Longer routes continue on the South Downs Way to Winchester Hill and include sections through East Meon, Ramsdean and Butser Hill before returning. The route is around 80% trail, involves climbing and can be tricky underfoot in wet conditions due to loose stones, tree roots and chalky descents.
Courses will be waymarked and an up-to-date GPX file will be available beforehand. There will be fully stocked checkpoints and the finish returns to the village hall where food and hot drinks are provided. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
