Rodeo Trail Run of Austin
The Rodeo Trail Run of Austin is a multi-day trail running event held at Grelle Recreation Area in Spicewood, Texas. The event offers several formats on Hill Country terrain with rocky and uneven sections, short steep climbs and descents, and frequent grade changes.
Distances and formats include:
- 13.1 miles Half Marathon
- 28 miles Marathon Ultra
- About 4.167 miles per loop for the Backyard Ultra
- 8 hour Timed Run on the same 4.167 mile loop
The main half-marathon and marathon ultra run on rolling dirt roads and rugged footing, with fully stocked aid stations, finisher recognition for every participant, and a custom participant shirt. The Backyard Ultra uses an out-and-back loop where each completed lap must be finished within an hour; the limited-field Backyard event is capped at about 20 to 25 runners and may convert to a timed format if the field does not fill. The 8 hour timed run asks runners to complete as many full loops as possible during an eight hour period; there is no participant cap for this format.
Course procedures include a starting corral called the Chute, a halfway turnaround ritual called The Catch, a pegboard token system for lap verification, and a finish area where runners ring a cowbell. The event is organized with Healthy Kids Running Series Cedar Park and proceeds support HKRS Cedar Park youth running programs. This event is not affiliated with Rodeo Austin.
