Rodeo Trail Run of Austin

The Rodeo Trail Run of Austin is a multi-day trail running event near Spicewood, Texas, taking place on Hill Country terrain at Grelle Recreation Area. The program includes a trail half marathon, a 28 mile marathon ultra, a Backyard Ultra and an 8 hour timed run. The course features rolling dirt roads and technical segments with loose and exposed rock, short steep climbs and uneven footing that require careful foot placement and pacing. Backyard Ultra competitors run a 4.167 mile out-and-back loop each hour until only one runner remains.
That invitational-style Backyard field is limited to about 20 to 25 runners; if the field does not fill, the format converts to a timed endurance event. The 8 hour timed run uses the same loop and counts completed loops toward awards; there is no participant cap for the timed event. The event provides fully stocked aid stations, a self-check system at the turnaround, and finisher recognition. A custom participant shirt is included and a rodeo-style finisher buckle is awarded for certain completion thresholds.
