The Roach Valley Way Charity Relay
The Roach Valley Way Relay is a stage trail run that follows the Roach Valley Way long distance footpath. The route totals 23 miles and is contested in 4 legs by teams of 4 runners. The event is organised to raise funds for Havens Hospices.
Runners navigate using written descriptions, route maps and existing footpath way markers. Additional signage will be placed to supplement the way markers. Marshals on the route are minimal, so navigation is primarily the responsibility of each runner. Roving marshals will attend road crossings and where required will place caution signs for traffic.
Each stage is treated as a standalone trail run with its own start time and marshal coordinators. Stage marshal teams book teams in at the start of each leg, provide roving marshals, record finish positions and times for that leg, and ensure all teams are accounted for before closing the leg. Stage marshals remain in contact with the overall event coordinator to coordinate responses to any incidents.
Scoring awards 1 point to the first team on each leg, 2 points to second, and so on. The team with the lowest total score after four legs wins; in the event of a tie the fastest overall time decides the outcome. The event operates with a low-key, cooperative spirit and all proceeds are donated to Havens Hospices. Registered Charity Number 1022119. England Athletics Race Licence #30843.
