  • 6 hour challenge

Entrants may select a bespoke medal from a selection of past event medals. The event is UKA affiliated, holds a race permit from TRA, and is a 100 Club qualifying event. Listed entry prices vary by distance, from about £16.50 up to £38.00. Age minimums apply: 5 km (12+), 10 km (16+), half marathon (17+), marathon and 6 hour challenge (18+).

Course and logistics

The course is a lapped out-and-back on the hard-packed Flitch Way trail. Each loop measures approximately 5.3 km. Two 5 km loop courses are marked in opposite directions, and runners may choose which direction to run after every loop. Two loops make a 10 km, four loops a half marathon, and eight loops a full marathon. In the 6 hour challenge the clock is the limiting factor.

There is an aid station at the end of every lap. Runners may leave a bag at the aid station; available supplies include flapjacks, fruit, nuts, water and squash. The event is cupless: participants must provide their own drinking receptacle. Parking is limited at the Booking Hall, with additional parking available on New Road opposite the Flitch Way.

Venue notes

The Flitch Way runs about 15 miles between Braintree and Bishops Stortford. It follows the route of the former single-track railway opened in 1869 and closed in 1969, and is noted as a traffic-free route with wildlife along the trail.
