Rattlerock Ultra - July 25, 2026

Rattlerock Ultra is a trail running event held in Coopers Rock State Forest near Morgantown, WV. The race offers the following distances:

  • 50k: four 7.9+ mile loops, almost 6,000 feet of elevation gain
  • 25k: two 7.9+ mile loops

The course follows a looped route that includes rocky, technical terrain, wooden stream crossings, sections through rhododendron tunnels, meadow and gravel road stretches, and a final flat but rooty trail segment each loop. The opening mile is especially rocky with boulders, winding hills, and tight turns; later sections combine steep and gradual climbs and descents and pass by cliffs and a small reservoir.

Course markings are checked before the event to reduce the chance of navigation issues. The 50k has eight aid stations and the 25k has four. The event uses a 9.5 hour cutoff. Parking at the venue is free. Distance-switching and pacers are not supported, but crews may be present at the start and finish area. Camping can be reserved inside Coopers Rock State Park, and nearby lodging is available in Cheat Lake and Morgantown.

Packet pickup is scheduled Friday evening. Post-race food includes pizza. Top three male and top three female finishers receive RATTLEROCK running hats. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
