Race The Light

Mothecombe, United Kingdom • 6 Dec 2025

Event overview

Race The Light takes place on Saturday 6 December 2025 at Mothecombe on the Erme Estuary. The event offers two courses:

  • 8.5 miles (Classic)
  • Half Marathon

Age limits are set relative to the event date: the Classic is for participants aged 17 years or older and the Half Marathon for those 18 years or older. The event is permitted by the Trail Running Association and is held under England Athletics rules. Each finisher receives a bespoke Race The Light medal. A head torch is mandatory.

Course and logistics

The Classic route runs on estuarine trails through the privately owned Flete Estate and includes a double crossing of the River Erme estuary. The Classic starts on the estuary slipway and finishes with an uphill ascent to the SchoolhouseDevon restaurant after a final crossing.

The Half Marathon uses parts of the Classic route but omits two woodland loops and adds about five miles along the South West Coast Path. The Half returns to the estuary at Wonwell for the final crossing; there is a 3.25 hour cut-off for reaching that second crossing. The course will be fully marked and marshalled. First aid is provided on course and at headquarters. Dogs are not permitted with runners during the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
