Race The Light : Mothecombe (6 December 2025)

Race The Light is a trail event staged by OuterEdge Events at Mothecombe on the Erme Estuary. The event offers two courses:

  • 8.5 miles (Classic)
  • Half Marathon

The Classic route runs through the privately owned Flete Estate and the Half Marathon uses sections of the Classic route plus additional coastal running.

Course and logistics

The Classic course includes two crossings of the River Erme estuary. The route starts on the estuary slipway and finishes with an uphill approach to the SchoolhouseDevon restaurant, followed by a final estuary crossing and a steep ascent to the finish. The Half Marathon crosses the estuary on the return only and includes about five miles on the South West Coast Path before returning to the estuary at Wonwell. There is a 3.25 hour cut-off for the second estuary crossing on the Half Marathon.

The course will be fully marked and marshalled. First aid is provided on course and at headquarters. A head torch is mandatory. Dogs are not permitted with runners during the race. Each finisher receives a bespoke Race The Light medal. Entry age limits are 17 years or older for the Classic and 18 years or older for the Half Marathon. The event is permitted by the Trail Running Association and is held under England Athletics rules. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
