Looping around Leusdon
Looping around Leusdon is a walking and running event hosted by the Cornwall & Devon Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA). This event is restricted to LDWA members and takes place at the Leusdon Memorial Hall. The course is designed around three distinct loops of approximately 10 miles each, which must be completed in a specific order starting and finishing at the hall.
Participants can choose from three distance options:
- 10 miles (one loop)
- 20 miles (two loops)
- 31 miles (three loops)
The terrain includes a variety of landscapes such as open moorland, woodlands, bridleways, footpaths, fields with livestock, and river walks. The routes pass several regional milestones, including the Ten Commandments stone, Hembury Castle Fort, and various Dartmoor tors such as Sharp Tor.
The event operates with an indoor check-in system where participants return to the hall between loops for light refreshments and drinks. Hot drinks and water are available before the start, and a hot meal is provided to finishers. All participants receive a certificate upon completion.
The event requires self-navigation skills; entrants must be able to read maps, follow compass bearings, and carry appropriate equipment for all weather conditions. Digital route descriptions and GPX files are provided to entrants in advance. Please note that dogs are not permitted, with the exception of registered disability assistance dogs. Participation is limited due to seasonal environmental considerations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
