Race for the Planet 5K
The 3rd Annual Race for the Planet takes place at Babcock Ranch in Punta Gorda. This year, the event moves to a new location, with both the start and finish lines situated at the William & Mary Ann Smith Sports Complex. The course consists of a mix of trails and sidewalks, starting on the path between the soccer and baseball fields.
Participants can choose from two distinct events:
- Race for the Planet 5K (Timed): A chip-timed competitive run.
- Walk for the Planet 5K (Untimed): A non-competitive walking event.
All registered runners and walkers receive a custom-designed event shirt and a finisher medal. Following the completion of the course, food and beverages are served in the outdoor pavilion. The facility includes on-site bathrooms at the sports complex.
Awards are presented to the first place overall male and female finishers, as well as winners in the Masters, Grand Masters, and Senior Grand Masters categories. In-person awards are also given to the top three male and female finishers across various age groups, ranging from 9 & under to 80+.
Parking is available at the William & Mary Ann Smith Sports Complex, with overflow parking located at the Babcock Ranch Field House. Spectators can view the participants at both the start and finish areas. Participants may run with dogs but are responsible for maintaining distance and clearing waste. Strollers are permitted, though they may encounter difficulty on the trail sections of the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
