Gator Wilderness Camp Trail Run
The Gator Wilderness Camp Trail Run is an athletic event held on the grounds of the Gator Wilderness Camp School in Punta Gorda, Florida. The course takes participants through 250 acres of diverse woods and shaded hammocks. All proceeds from the race entries benefit the school, which is a residential program for adolescent males.
The event offers several trail race distances and a specific activity for children:
- 5k trail race
- 10k trail race
- 15k trail race
- 1 Mile Kids Fun Dash for ages 2-12
- Virtual race option
The Kids Fun Dash is a free event for children. This specific dash does not include timing, bibs, or race shirts, but participants receive a food band. For the trail races, participants who register by April 1 are guaranteed a race shirt. Post-race food options include biscuits and gravy, bacon hash brown casserole, sausage links, molasses cookies, and acai bowls.
Awards are presented to overall and masters finishers in the 5k, as well as the top three finishers in five-year age groups. For the 10k and 15k distances, awards are provided to overall finishers and the top three in five-year age groups. The event maintains specific safety policies, prohibiting pets and running strollers on the trail course. The virtual event is limited to a one-day window to mimic the race day experience, with shirts shipped to participants after the event.
