Chelmsford Pretty Muddy 5k event details

The event is a Pretty Muddy 5k obstacle course held on Sunday 18 July 2027 at Hylands Park, Greenbury Way, Chelmsford CM2 8FS. It is organised by Cancer Research UK as part of the Race for Life series. The course is fully contained within the grounds of Hylands Park and is run mainly on grass with some slight inclines and undulating areas. The start and finish are on grass; the start line is behind Flint Cottage and the finish is on the open grass area opposite.

Participants move through the course in staggered waves, with each wave starting every 15 minutes. Obstacles encourage climbing, crawling and sliding; marshals are available to assist and participants may skip obstacles if needed. Minimum age to take part in this event is 13 years. Pretty Muddy Kids events are offered separately for children aged 12 and under.

Transport and parking information notes a free car park accessed via Greenbury Way, a designated drop off zone, and Blue Badge parking via the Hylands House entrance at the Stables Car Park. First Bus service 351 stops outside the park and Chelmsford railway station is about 3.5 miles away. Cycle parking is limited to roughly 20 spaces in the main car park.

Facilities on site include refreshments, toilets and parking. The event is not wheelchair accessible due to the nature of the course. Participants receive a fundraising pack, a customisable back sign, training support and a Race for Life medal on completion. The course map is available but may be subject to change.
