Quest for the Crest 50k/25k
The event takes place in Burnsville, North Carolina. There is a 50k and a 25k race.
The organizer states the event is known for its significant elevation gain, with the 50k having roughly 12,000 ft and the 25k having 4,500 ft. The races are point-to-point courses on technical trails. The first climb for both distances is described as 2.5 miles long with a 3,300 ft gain. Some sections are steep enough to require using hands or a rope. The route includes the summit of Mount Mitchell.
All participants receive a pint glass and a hat or beanie. Finishers of the 50k receive a medal. Free race photos are provided. A mandatory shuttle ride to the start is included.
The organizer warns that this is not suitable for a first trail race. They describe the event as extremely rugged and requiring serious training, mountain experience, and self-sufficiency, including water filtering for the longer distances.
