Quest for the Crest takes place May 16-17, 2026 in Burnsville, North Carolina. The event offers point-to-point mountain races in three distances:
- 50K
- 25K
- 11K
Course and terrain
The 50K course includes about 12,000 ft of vertical gain and reaches the summit of Mt. Mitchell. Courses are point to point and include multiple major climbs. The route is described as very steep and technical, with sections where runners may need to climb on all fours and use ropes. Trails are rocky and rooty in places, and some sections were affected by trail damage from Hurricane Helene; organizers note ongoing trail repairs and possible route adjustments.
Aid, safety and rules
The 11K is a one-way hill climb to the summit of Mt. Mitchell; it has no formal aid stations but there are places to refill water. Runners in some distances must carry or be able to filter water. A mandatory shuttle transports runners to the race start. The organizer warns this event is not suitable as a first trail race due to steep, technical terrain and safety risks.
Entries, awards and refunds
All entrants receive a pint glass and a hat or beanie. 50K finishers receive a medal and all runners receive race photos. Refund policy: no refunds within 90 days of the event; cancellations earlier may receive partial credit; full credit is offered for pregnancy and military orders and is valid for two years.
