Event overview

The SARR Prickly Pear takes place Saturday, March 7, 2026, at McAllister Park - Optimist Pavilion #3 in San Antonio, TX. The event offers the following distances, each available in-person and as a virtual option where noted:

  • 50K - in-person and virtual
  • 15K - in-person and virtual
  • 5K - in-person and virtual

The race is limited to 600 runners. SARR members receive a 25% online discount through February 1, 2026. Packet pick-up is available Friday, March 6 (4:00-7:00pm) at REI Co-op (11745 I-10, Suite 110) or race morning at the pavilion (packets are not held after the race). Virtual entrants receive a shirt and medal but are not eligible for event awards; virtual 50K entrants receive an oval finishers sticker. Packets are not automatically shipped without selecting shipping.

Course, aid and race logistics

All distances start and finish at the same pavilion and run on McAllister Park natural trails. The course uses the Blue Loop, Mud Creek Loop, and Mosquito Lake trails and includes rocks, tree roots, dry creek beds, and prickly pear cactus. The terrain is mostly flat single-track.

This is a cupless race. Aid stations on the 50K/15K loop provide water and Gatorade at three stations; the 5K has one station. Stations are stocked with Crazy Water and Gatorade; participants must carry a hydration device or collapsible cup. Dogs and strollers are not allowed on the course. Awards are given to the top three Overall and Masters (40+) in Female, Male, and Non-Binary categories for each distance; no age-group awards.
