Prickly Pear 50K

San Antonio, United States • 7 Mar 2026

Event overview

The SARR Prickly Pear is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2026, in San Antonio, TX at McAllister Park - Optimist Pavilion #3 (13102 Jones Maltsberger Road). The event offers in-person and virtual options in three distances:

  • 50K
  • 15K
  • 5K

In-person races use natural park trails and are chip-timed. The race is limited to 600 runners. Packet pick-up is available Friday, March 6 (REI Co-op, 11745 I-10, Suite 110) and on race morning near the pavilion.

Course and logistics

All distances start and finish at the same pavilion in the center of McAllister Park. The course runs on mostly flat single-track trails including the Blue Loop, Mud Creek Loop, and Mosquito Lake trails, with sections over rocks, tree roots, and dry creek beds and areas with prickly pear cactus. The 50K is laid out as three loops; the 15K and 5K use shorter looped routes. There are restrooms near the pavilion and port-a-potties with hand sanitizing stations. Parking is available near the pavilion or a short walk away.

Aid stations, rules and awards

This is a cupless race. Aid stations provide Crazy Water and Gatorade and are signed for collapsible cups or personal hydration devices; volunteers will assist. Runners must wear a bib on the front of the shirt. Awards go to the top three overall and top three masters (40+) by gender category for each distance; there are no age-group awards. All finishers receive a medal; 50K finishers receive a hat and car sticker. Virtual participants receive a shirt and medal but are not eligible for awards or 50K finishers hats; shipping of packets requires an add-on at registration. SARR members receive a 25% discount when registering online by February 1, 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
