Prickly Pear 50K (and 15K, 5K) : McAllister Park, San Antonio

The Prickly Pear trail races take place on March 6, 2027 at McAllister Park, staging at Optimist Pavilion #3. This is the 24th running organized by the San Antonio RoadRunners. The event includes in-person and virtual options.

Distances

  • 50K - three 10.34 mile loops on natural dirt trails
  • 15K - one 9.36 mile loop on natural dirt trails
  • 5K - one 3.38 mile loop on natural dirt trails

Course and aid stations The courses are mostly flat single-track with dirt, rocks, tree roots, dry creek beds, and prickly pear cactus. All races start and finish at the same pavilion. The 50K and 15K share a loop with three water stations on course; the 5K has one water station. Aid stations are stocked with Crazy Water and Gatorade. This is a cupless event: participants must carry their own hydration device or a collapsible cup. Volunteers assist at stations and no paper cups will be provided.

Timing, awards and services Races are chip-timed and require a bib worn on the front. Top three overall and masters 40 plus awards are given for each distance by gender categories including non-binary. No age group awards. All finishers receive a medal; 50K finishers also receive a finishers hat and a car sticker. Packet pickup is available the day before at REI Co-op and on race morning near the pavilion. The race field is capped at 600 entrants. Virtual entries are not eligible for overall awards and require a shipping option for mailed packets. A themed race day by Bigfoot Running Company at Lady Bird Johnson Trail Park offering a Kids Dash, 1 Mile, chip timed 5K and 10K, volunteer options, and a virtual run on July 11, 2026.

Multi-distance event at O. P. Schnabel Park on August 16, 2026, with Kids Dash, 1 Mile, chip-timed 5K, quarter and half marathons, plus a virtual option. On-course aid stations, on-site awards, shirts, medals, and post-race Kona Ice.
