Event
The SARR Prickly Pear takes place on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at McAllister Park - Optimist Pavilion #3, San Antonio, TX 78247. The event offers in-person and virtual options in three distances:
- 50K
- 15K
- 5K
Entry prices are listed for each event and there are virtual versions of all three distances. The race is chip-timed and participants must wear a bib on the front of their shirt. Awards are given to the Top 3 Overall and Top 3 Masters (40+) in female, male, and non-binary categories for each distance; there are no age-group awards. All finishers receive a medal; 50K finishers in-person also receive a hat and a car sticker. Virtual participants are not eligible for awards or the 50K finishers hat; virtual entrants receive a race t-shirt and finishers medal and must add shipping if they want their packet mailed. The event has a cap of 600 runners. SARR members receive a 25% discount through registration deadlines.
Course and logistics
All races start and finish at the same pavilion and use natural single-track trails in McAllister Park, including the Blue Loop, Mud Creek Loop, and Mosquito Lake trails. The course is mostly flat and includes rocks, tree roots, dry creek beds, and prickly pear cactus. The 50K is run as three loops of about 10.34 miles; the 15K is one loop of about 9.36 miles; the 5K is about 3.38 miles. There are three aid stations on the 50K/15K loop and one on the 5K. This is a cupless race; runners must carry their own hydration device or collapsible cup. Packet pick-up is available the day before at an REI Co-op location or on race morning near the pavilion.
