Pocahontas Trail Festival

The Pocahontas Trail Festival takes place at Pocahontas State Park in Chesterfield, Virginia. The event offers two distinct distances for trail runners, utilizing the park's natural terrain and a network of hiking trails. The start, finish, and staging areas are located on the grass field adjacent to the boat launch, approximately 1.5 miles into the park from the entrance station.

Available distances include:

  • 13.1 Miles (Half Marathon)
  • 6.2 Miles (10k)

The courses are designed as loops, with both distances covering the first 10k together. Participants on the 13.1 Miles course encounter the newest trails in the park, specifically the Coop and Trooper Trails, which are described as runnable with consistent footing. These sections provide scenic views throughout the later stages of the long-distance route.

Water stations are positioned along the course at approximately the 3, 6, and 9-mile marks. Due to the remote nature of the trails, runners are encouraged to carry their own refillable water packs and fuel. The event uses professional chip timing, with chips attached to the back of the race bibs. Results are provided live during the festival.

Facilities at the venue include indoor bathrooms located near the main pool lot and shelter #2. Parking is available within the state park for a daily fee, payable by cash or card at the entrance contact station. Awards are presented to male and female finishers across various age groups, ranging from 19 and under to 60 and over. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
