Pocahontas Trail Festival

Event overview

The Pocahontas Trail Festival is a trail running event held at Pocahontas State Park in Chesterfield, VA (10301 State Park Rd). The event includes the following distances:

• Half Marathon
• 10k

Entry prices listed for the events are $65 for the half marathon and $55 for the 10k. The race uses professional timing chips and offers live results. Race numbers include a timing chip on the back and should be attached so the numerals are right side up and visible during the event.

Course, support and logistics

The course was redesigned with new hiking trails. The 10k uses a loop that all runners cover first; the half marathon continues on a larger loop, with the final 4+ miles on Coop and Trooper Trails. Newer trail sections are described as runnable with good footing most of the way. On-course water stations are located at approximately miles 3, 6 and 9; participants are advised to carry a refillable water pack and fuel because parts of the course are remote.

The staging area, start and finish are on a large grass field adjacent to the park pool parking lot and boat launch, about 1.5 miles inside the park on State Park Rd. All race activities are at the black and orange tents on that field. Parking requires the park fee if no state permit; weekend all-day parking is currently $10 per carload. Two indoor bathrooms are available near the start/finish.

Age-group awards are given race day for male and female finishers in standard age ranges (19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
