The Pilot Mountain Salamander Scamper is a trail race held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, in Pinnacle, North Carolina. The event distance is 25K. The start/finish area is at 301 Boyd Nelson Rd, Pinnacle, NC. Race capacity is limited to 125 runners. Registration closes on February 19, 2026. There is a cut-off time of 2:30 pm. The race runs rain or shine unless Pilot Mountain State Park is closed for weather; if the park closes, organizers will attempt to reschedule.

Course and logistics

The course begins at the Pilot Creek Trailhead and follows Pilot Creek Trail to the campground, then Grindstone trail, Ledge Springs trail to the summit area, Jomeokee trail around the pinnacle (counterclockwise), the upper parking area, Grindstone trail downhill, Mountain trail on the backside, and back to Pilot Creek Trail to the start/finish. Full aid stations are located at approximately 3 miles, 7 miles, and 13 miles and will provide water, Gatorade, Coke, gels, and fruit. The registration fee includes a long sleeve technical shirt (size guaranteed if registered by January 5), three fully stocked aid stations, a hot post-race meal, and a finishers medallion. Dry camping is available at Jomeokee Campground, about a six minute drive from the race start.
