Pier Gates Remembrance Race

This is a remembrance hill race in County Wicklow on 27 December 2026. The race will start from Pier Gates near Lough Tay car park because Djouce woods is currently unsuitable due to collapsed trees. The route will differ from 2024 and will be confirmed before the event.

Distances

  • 8.50 km main course with 120 m climb
  • 4.90 km short course
  • Approx 4 km junior race

The route is fully marked and GPS navigation is allowed. The organiser lists the event difficulty as level 3 with easy terrain. Mandatory kit is Level A basic, which includes at least a showerproof, windproof jacket. Runners must be able to carry the required kit if requested. Random kit checks may be carried out and lack of required items can lead to denial of entry or disqualification.

The event combines several local traditions and is held to remember IMRA members who have passed away. Fancy dress is encouraged and the intended spirit is a social celebration of those hillrunners. Prizegiving will take place in the car park after the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
