Event Information

The Pier Gates Remembrance Race is a mountain running event in Wicklow. It takes place on Sunday, 27 December 2026. The race is held at Pier Gates/Lough Tay Car Park.

Distances and Course

The main race covers a distance of 8.50 km with 120 m of climb. A short course option of 4.90 km is also available. There will also be a junior race of approximately 4 km, with the route to be confirmed. The route is fully marked and GPS devices are allowed.

Mandatory Kit

The event requires Level A mandatory kit, which includes a showerproof, windproof jacket. Runners must bring these items to the race. The kit to be carried during the race will be finalized on the day based on conditions and announced at registration. Runners must also have a means to carry all required kit.

Background and Spirit

The race combines traditions to remember IMRA members who have passed away. The intended spirit is for fun to celebrate the lives of these hill runners. Fancy dress is encouraged. The race director welcomes information about other deceased IMRA participants.

Trail runs nearby

A fully marked 21.5 km mountain loop in County Wicklow with about 750 m of ascent. The course goes over Trooperstown Hill and through Clara Vale, includes a water station near 16 km, and requires Level B mandatory kit.

Tibradden in County Dublin on 29 April 2026 features fully marked mountain running routes of 9.90 km and 4.50 km with 365 m climb on the main course. Level B mandatory kit is required and GPS is not allowed.

An open mountain race in the upper Dargle Valley with free-route navigation over four peaks, covering 15 km and 800 m ascent. The route is unmarked, GPS is not allowed and Level C mandatory kit must be carried.

A mountain running event in County Wicklow with marked long and short courses, about 450 m climbing on the long route. Level B mandatory kit is required and parking is provided at Cooley Farm with proceeds to Wicklow Cancer Support.
