Piedmont 8 Hour
The Piedmont 8 Hour is a trail event held at Powhatan State Park near Powhatan, VA. It is offered in multiple formats:
- 8 hour individual
- 4 person relay
- 8 hour hiker
- Parent Loop option
The main course is a 2.7 mile loop with approximately 60 feet of elevation change per lap. The route moves through open meadows and pine forest, features mostly double track with few roots or rocks, and includes one or two short hills. Late October racing typically coincides with fall foliage and frequent bird activity in the fields.
Aid and food are available each time runners pass the start line. The aid station provides typical ultra foods such as gummy candies and chips, plus water, Tailwind, and some pop. The event is cupless; participants are expected to provide their own cup.
Awards are given to the top three finishers in male and female categories and all participants receive finisher awards. Boxed lunches from the Cafe at Maidens are offered as an add on and include a sandwich, chips, a cookie, and a can of pop; they may also be ordered for family or friends. The event lists a nonrefundable policy and offers discounts for law enforcement, fire, medical, education, military, and veterans.
