Pete Bland 50th Kentmere Horseshoe

The event is a medium Lakeland fell race that follows a clockwise horseshoe of the Kentmere Valley. The route covers 12.3 miles (19.8 km) with about 3300 ft (1006 m) of climb and visits Ill Bell, High Street and Kentmere Pike. The terrain includes ridge running on the grassy Eastern fells.

The race is held under FRA rules for competition. Minimum kit requirements apply and will be strictly enforced. Competitors should be prepared to carry waterproof whole body cover, a map and compass suitable for navigating the course, a whistle, hat and gloves, and emergency food.

Checkpoint cut off times apply at two of the three checkpoints. The Ill Bell cut off is 1 hour 20 minutes and the High Street cut off is 2 hours 20 minutes. Kentmere Pike has no cut off. Cut offs will be strictly enforced; competitors who reach a checkpoint after the cut off will be disqualified. Checkpoint marshals will advise competitors to turn back or be directed off the hill if necessary. The route is flagged and marshalled from Hallow Bank back to the finish.

Venue facilities include parking at the Hollingsworth and Vose factory in the Kentmere Valley with a small charge, refreshments in Kentmere Village Hall, and a Pete Bland Sports mobile shop at the event. The minimum age for entry is 18. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
