Peebles Pootle

Peebles Pootle is a walking event based at the Community Centre in Peebles. The routes are mainly offroad with indistinct paths that climb to broad grassy ridges and include occasional peat hags. The course reaches high ground above the Tweed Valley with opportunities for panoramic views.

The event offers two route options and published time limits. Checkpoints have opening times based on walking speeds, though the event is open to runners; runners may have to wait at checkpoints until they open. The course will not be waymarked though signs may be placed at tricky junctions. Hot food and refreshments are available for participants at the finish in Peebles. Entry requirements include age limits and a published entry fee structure.

  • 16.4 miles, 2,943 ft / 897 m ascent, 8 hour time limit

The route description includes crossing the River Tweed by a pedestrian footbridge to join the Cross Borders Drove Road, then climbs to Dead Side and Hundleshope Heights (2,248 ft / 685 m). The long route continues along the Southern Upland Way and passes Traquair Village Hall, Lee Pen (1,647 ft / 502 m), Mill Ridge, Black Law (1,765 ft / 538 m) and finishes via Glentress Forest back to Peebles.
