Event Overview
The Peebles Pootle is a long-distance event starting and finishing in the borders town of Peebles. Organized by the South of Scotland LDWA, the event is primarily designed for walkers but is open to runners. Participants navigate off-road terrain consisting of broad grassy ridges, peat hags, and indistinct paths. The course is not way-marked, although signs may be placed at specific junctions. Both routes offer views above the Tweed Valley.
Distances and Routes
Participants can choose between two route options:
- 27.6 miles (44.4 km): Features 5,643 ft (1,720 m) of elevation gain with a 12-hour time limit.
- 16.4 miles (26.4 km): Features 2,943 ft (897 m) of elevation gain with an 8-hour time limit.
The routes begin at the Peebles Community Centre, crossing the River Tweed via a pedestrian footbridge to join the Cross Borders Drove Road. The courses include climbs to locations such as Hundleshope Heights, Glenrath Heights, and Birkscairn Hill. The longer route continues along the Southern Upland Way and climbs Lee Pen and Black Law before descending through Glentress Forest.
Logistics
Checkpoints are situated along the course, with opening times based on walking paces; runners may be required to wait if they arrives before a station is open. Hot food and refreshments are provided for all participants at the finish line in Peebles. The event is open to individuals aged 18 and older, or those aged 16 to 18 if accompanied by a guardian.
