Peak Rail 7 Runner vs Steam

Peak Rail 7 Runner vs Steam is an event on Monday 29 March 2027 organised by Matlock Athletic Club. Runners are challenged to beat the steam hauled heritage rail service on the route from Peak Rail Rowsley South station to Matlock Riverside station and back.

The event starts from Peak Rail, Rowsley South Station. There is free parking on site and additional free parking along the approach road within a short walk of the registration area. Registration is arranged by surname beneath visible blue gazebos and participants are asked to bring their own safety pins. Toilet facilities are provided at Peak Rail with additional portaloos for the event. There is space for warm up around the rail site or on the nearby trail, and the steam train is expected to be on the platform before the race.

The course follows a shared trail and organisers provide marshals and a lead biker to warn other trail users. There are several road crossings that will be marshalled; participants should be able to hear marshals and other users and are asked not to use earphones. A short riverside stretch at Matlock has an uneven surface where flood damage has stripped away tarmac so extra care is advised. Volunteers hand out race gifts at the finish, results are published online, and free race photos are made available after the event. Team prizes are awarded for male and female teams based on the first three finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
