Pagan Trails takes place in Chagford in the north-eastern corner of Dartmoor. Both races start and finish at Chagford Cricket and Football Club. The routes pass stone circles and pagan sites in the area and follow wintry moorland terrain.

  • Marathon: over 28 miles
  • Half Marathon: well over 14 miles

Route, cut-offs and kit

The Marathon includes about 1500 m of ascent and the Half Marathon about 700 m of ascent. Time limits are 8 hours for the Marathon and 4 hours for the Half Marathon; cut-offs will be strictly enforced. There are four full outdoor aid stations for the Marathon and two for the Half Marathon. GPS trackers are used for the Marathon and are provided to entrants. GPX route files are available.

Mandatory kit includes a waterproof jacket, trail shoes, a backpack, capacity to carry 1 litre of fluid for the Marathon and 0.5 litre for the Half Marathon, a spare warm long-sleeve baselayer, warm hat and gloves, emergency food and an emergency foil blanket. Marathon runners must also carry waterproof leggings, a headtorch, a mobile phone with the race director and lead medic numbers, and GPS trackers are supplied. Minimum ages are 20 years for the Marathon and 17 years for the Half Marathon. The event is held under a permit from the Trail Running Association and England Athletics rules.
