PAGAN TRAILS is a midwinter trail running event on Dartmoor, based in Chagford in the north-eastern Moor. The event offers two distances that visit stone circles and pagan sites in the area. The start and finish for both races are at Chagford Cricket and Football Club, which serves as Event HQ. The event holds a permit from the Trail Running Association and is run under England Athletics rules.

Race details and logistics

  • Over 14 miles (Half Marathon)

The Marathon has more than 1500 m of ascent and the Half Marathon has almost 700 m of ascent. Time limits are 8 hours for the Marathon and 4 hours for the Half Marathon; cut-offs will be strictly enforced. There are four full outdoor aid stations on the Marathon and two on the Half Marathon. GPS trackers are provided for the Marathon. GPX files are available for the routes.

Mandatory kit and requirements

Minimum ages are 20 years for the Marathon and 17 years for the Half Marathon. Mandatory kit includes a waterproof jacket, trail shoes, backpack, capacity to carry 1 litre of fluid for the Marathon (1/2 litre for the Half), a spare warm long-sleeve baselayer, warm hat and gloves, emergency food and foil blanket, and a mobile phone with race contacts. The Runners Navigation Course - Princetown will take place in Princetown on Sunday 11 January 2026.
