OUTLAST Portland Trail Challenge
OUTLAST Portland is a trail endurance event held at Forest Park on the Leif Erikson Trail. The competition follows a specific format where participants attempt to complete a 5K loop every hour, on the hour, for a total of six rounds. To remain in the event, runners must finish each lap within the 60-minute time limit. Those who finish a lap early may rest at the basecamp until the start of the next hour. If a participant fails to complete a lap within the hour, they are removed from the challenge.
The course features natural trail terrain, including dirt, rocks, roots, and elevation changes. Some sections may include gravel or pavement. This is a cupless event, meaning participants must bring their own hydration systems or bottles to use at the aid station. The basecamp provides water, basic hydration, and snacks. Runners are permitted to set up their own tents or personal aid stations at the start area.
Participants are rewarded based on the number of laps completed:
- 4 laps: "Grit Earned" patch
- 5 laps: "Survivor" patch
- 6 laps: Premium OUTLAST medal
Official rankings are based on the fastest combined time across all six laps for those who finish the entire challenge. Top performers may qualify for a national leaderboard and a championship event. All registered participants receive an event shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
