Otter Rail and River Run - Tipton St John

Otter Rail and River Run is a community organised off-road running event based at Tipton St John playing field. The event is staged by the Tipton St John Playing Field Association with support from Sidmouth Running Club and is held under ARC rules. It was first run in 2007.

Distances

  • 10 km - off-road course following public footpaths and rights of way through the Otter Valley.
  • Fun run (approx 1 mile) - off-road course on the village playing field, under 8s accompanied.

The 10 km route follows riverside paths alongside the River Otter, passes through Harpford woods, runs along the old Sidmouth railway line, crosses fields towards Fluxton and returns on tracks to the village and playing field. The course uses public rights of way and can be wet or muddy in places.

Prizes and mementoes include individual, team and veteran awards, a custom finisher item for fun run participants and a bottled Otter Brewery product for 10 km finishers aged 18 or over. Camping on the playing field is permitted over the weekend with prior booking and a fee. Proceeds from the event support the Tipton St John playing field and local charitable activities.
