Event information
Old Tom Backyard is a Last Runner Standing event held near Blumenort, Manitoba on an active family farm southeast of Winnipeg. Entry fee is $175 (GST and platform fees not included). Registration opens December 6, 2025 and early registration pricing ends January 3, 2026. The field is capped at 75 runners. Participants must be 18 years of age or older on race day. Runners who register by April 30 are guaranteed a race T-shirt. Included items listed by the organizer include a custom race T-shirt, a locally made medallion, fuel/snack station access, water and ice, coffee, a swag bag, and first aid support.
Course, format and rules
The event uses two loop types: a day loop of treed singletrack and grass pasture trails, and a night loop that is an out-and-back along local gravel roads. The format is self-supported and lap-based. Runners must complete each lap within one hour. New laps start on the hour and participants must be in the starting corral at the bell. No support is allowed on the course during a lap except brief verbal encouragement. No pacing and no artificial aids, including poles, are permitted. Runners may not leave a loop once the bell has sounded. Water, ice, and some snacks are provided, but participants must provide their own food. The last runner standing receives a Silver Ticket toward the 2026 Team World Championships; if that runner sets a new course record (currently 35 yards) a cash prize of $1000 is offered. Pets are not allowed and some farm areas are off-limits for biosecurity. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
