Old Tom Backyard is a Backyard Ultra, presented as a Last Runner Standing event on July 4, 2026 near Blumenort, Manitoba. The race is hosted on an active family farm about 25 minutes southeast of Winnipeg. The site includes a race corral under an open-sided pole shed and space for crew tents. Pets are not allowed and some farm areas are restricted for biosecurity.

Course and race site

The course uses private farm trails and local gravel roads. The day loop is winding treed singletrack and grass pasture trails. The night loop is an out-and-back along local gravel roads. Trail maps are provided on the event website.

Format and rules

Each lap is 4.167 miles (6.71 km) and must be completed within one hour. A new lap begins every hour until one runner completes a lap more than all others. Runners may not receive or give support while on a loop except brief verbal encouragement. No pacing, no artificial aids (including poles), and no leaving the course mid-loop for support. The event is self-supported for food; water, ice and a small selection of snacks are provided. Participants must be 18 years or older. The field is capped at 75 runners.

Registration and prizes

Early entry fee is listed as $175. Registrants who register by April 30 are guaranteed a race T-shirt. Included items: custom race T-shirt, access to private trails, a custom medallion, DNF prize, fuel/snack station, water/ice, coffee, swag bag and first aid. The Last Runner Standing receives a Silver Ticket toward the Team World Championships; additional cash prizes are offered for specific yard records.
