Event overview

The Northern Nipmuck Trail Race is a trail running event held in late March 2026 in Union, Connecticut. The main distance is 16 miles (advertised; the route is probably slightly shorter). Registration opens January 1, 2026. Early registration is $25 plus the registration platform fee. The race is capped at 100 entrants and there is no race-day registration. There are no awards or swag listed. Proceeds after costs will go to organizations that support local trails. The race was discontinued in 2012 and revived in 2022.

Course and logistics

The start is across the road from Bigelow Hollow State Park, with parking available in the park and a signed trail from the lot that avoids walking on the road. The route follows the Nipmuck Trail south through the Yale-Myers Forest. At about 4 miles the trail crosses Barlow Mill Road (Two Pipes), then continues roughly 4 miles to the turnaround at Boston Hollow (the northern end of the Nipmuck Marathon). Runners return the same way to the finish. The course is blazed blue with some additional flagging at tricky spots. Minimal aid will be provided at miles 4, 8, and 12. Navigation is the runner’s responsibility. Refunds can be deferred to a future Shenipsit Striders event if withdrawal occurs up to three days before the race.
