Northern, Lakes, Dales and Moors Traverse
The Northern, Lakes, Dales and Moors Traverse consists of a series of ultra-distance trail races crossing the north of England through three National Parks. The events follow a route from the west coast at St Bees to the east coast at Robin Hood’s Bay.
Participants can choose from four distinct distances:
- 300 km Northern Traverse starting in St Bees and finishing at Robin Hood's Bay.
- 100 km Lakes Traverse from St Bees to Shap with 3,500m of ascent.
- 80 km Moors Traverse from Ingleby Cross to Robin Hood's Bay.
- 55 km Dales Traverse from Kirkby Stephen to Richmond.
The 300 km route involves approximately 6,500m of total ascent, traversing mountains, valleys, and moors. The 100 km option crosses the Lake District via Ennerdale, Borrowdale, Grasmere Common, Fairfield, Patterdale, and Kidsty Pike, with a 28-hour time limit.
The 80 km course follows the northern edge of the North York Moors National Park and eastern Yorkshire, featuring 1,600m of elevation. The 55 km race travels through the North Pennines Area of Outstanding National Beauty, passes the Nine Standards, and moves through Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park to finish below Richmond Castle.
