The Lake Travis New Year’s Trail Challenge is a multi-distance trail event held at Shaffer Bend Park in Lago Vista along the Colorado River, near Cedar Park, Leander, Austin, and Marble Falls. The event offers a selection of trail distances, including ultramarathon options, looped courses with river views, and shorter trail runs or rucks.
Distances include:
- 100K and 50K ultramarathons
- 25K trail run
- Half marathon run or ruck
- 10K and 5K trail run or ruck
- Kids races and Last Runner Standing
A stocked aid station will provide hydration, nutrition, and medical assistance, with snacks such as fruit, cookies, breakfast bars, chips, and soft drinks. All finishers receive custom medals. Animals are not permitted at the event. Camping is available at a limited number of campsites on a first-come, first-served basis; participants are advised to arrange reservations in advance.
The event follows Leave No Trace principles and other eco-friendly practices. Guidelines emphasize staying on marked trails, packing out trash, avoiding campfires, respecting wildlife, and being considerate of other park users. Race registration includes park entry; additional spectator fees apply for general admission, seniors, and some other categories.
