Hippo Trail Fest takes place on March 21, 2026 at the Hippo Social Club, 3250 Limmer Loop Unit 3, Hutto, TX. Event entries include the following distances and formats:
- 50K
- 20 miles
- 10 miles
- 10K
- 5K
- 10K Ruck
- 13.1 mile Ruck
- 10 mile Ruck
- Hippo Haul (5 km weight carry)
- Youth 1 Mile (open to ages 12 and under)
A $10 land use fee is collected during registration. There is a shirt order cutoff on February 24 for those who want the event shirt.
Course, rules and race support
The route uses a well-marked, rolling 5 mile loop on soft, wooded trails with some short ups and downs, tight turns, and creek crossings; longer distances are multiple laps. The 10K is two laps of the 5K route. The 50K uses an initial 1.1 mile lap followed by six 5 mile laps. Course markings include tape, arrows, and confidence markers; cupless policy means runners should bring a cup or bottle.
Aid stations are placed so no runner is more than 3 miles from support and will offer water, sports drink, sodas, snacks, and electrolyte products. Chip timing is used with ankle chips. Pacers are not allowed. Littering can lead to disqualification; race procedures follow Leave No Trace principles.
Ruck division requires a 20 lb weight for participants under 150 lb and 30 lb for those over 150 lb, mandatory weigh-ins, and back-mounted weight only. The Hippo Haul uses a ~5-10 lb concrete hippo and includes mandatory physical tasks at stations on the loop. Awards include Top 3 Overall and Top Masters (50+).
