Trail Running Along the Norfolk Coast

The Norfolk Coastal Trail event features two point-to-point distances that follow the well-marked Norfolk Coast path. This long-distance trail is primarily off-road and identified by waymarkers featuring an acorn symbol. The event is licensed by the Trail Runners Association and operates under UK Athletics rules.

The available distances include:

  • Full Marathon (approximate distance)
  • Half Marathon (approximate distance)

The Full Marathon begins at the Holme-next-the-Sea car park and heads east toward the finish. The Half Marathon starts at Burnham Overy Village Hall in Burnham Overy Staithe. Both routes conclude at Morston Quay. Participants have the option to book coach transport, which travels from the finish area to the respective start lines before the races begin.

This is a cup-less event, meaning participants must bring their own reusable bottles or cups. Regular checkpoints are situated along the course, providing water, squash, and snacks such as sweets and crisps. Specific cut-off times are enforced at Burnham Overy for marathon runners and at Stiffkey for both distances to ensure all participants finish by late afternoon.

Electronic gun timing is used to track progress, supplemented by manual recording at checkpoints for safety. All finishers receive a bespoke medal, and prizes are awarded to the top three male and female runners in each category. The event has an entry limit of 200 places for the marathon and 300 for the half marathon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
