Course and race services
Courses use mostly technical dirt single-track trails and include steep climbs. Routes follow sections of the Western States trail to No Hands Bridge, include the K2 training hill and Overlook Hill, and the 50K crosses Highway 49 to run the Wendell T. Robie trail in the Auburn State Recreation Area. Published distance and elevation figures are: Furious 50K - 31.3 miles, 5,550 ft gain; 35K - 20.8 miles, 3,685 ft gain; Heavy Half - 13.5 miles, 2,800 ft gain; 8K - 4.8 miles, 950 ft gain.
Aid stations provide a variety of food and beverages (for example: energy gels, trail mix, PB&J, water, Skratch Labs hydration) and basic first aid but no anti-inflammatory medicine. This is a cupless event; runners must carry their own bottle or reusable cup. Course markings use colored ribbons and signs; blue ribbons mark wrong-way trails. Awards use gun time for overall places and chip time for age groups; all 50K finishers receive a branded pint glass. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
