Night Train Ultra Marathons
Night Train Ultra Marathons take place June 19, 2027 at High Bridge Trail State Park and offer multiple timed distances with staffed aid stations, drop bag support, pacer and crew rules, and awards.
Distances:
- 5k
- Half Marathon
- 50k
- 100k
The 100k begins at Camp Paradise, travels east to Rice and Orchard Road, returns briefly to Camp Paradise, then continues west toward downtown Farmville with aid stations at Mile 25 and Tuggle (Mile 30.4). Prospect serves as an indoor aid station and a primary drop bag location; additional 100k drop bags may be placed at Orchard Road and Pamplin. The 50k also starts at Camp Paradise, crosses High Bridge, and follows a westward route with aid stations at Osborne Road, Tuggle, and Prospect before an unmanned turnaround and a return to the finish.
The Half Marathon heads west toward Farmville, passes the downtown aid station at mile 5.6 (Train Station), continues about one mile to an unmanned turnaround, and retraces to the finish. The 5k crosses the bridge and turns back shortly before River Road.
Every distance must carry at least 20 ounces of water. Runners must reach Prospect on the return leg (mile 17) by 11:00 pm or they will be removed from the course. Pacers are allowed for the 100k after mile 19.6 and for 50k runners on the back half; pacers are not allowed for the Half Marathon or 5k. Crew access is available downtown, at Tuggle, and at Prospect. Dogs are not permitted; strollers are allowed from Prospect to the finish with exceptions for adaptive athletes. Lodging options are available in downtown Farmville and nearby cabins at Twin Lakes State Park. Top three male and female finishers in each distance receive handmade pottery and every finisher receives a prize. A discount code "Thanks" is offered for certain professionals.
