Course and logistics
The course follows an old rail trail through countryside, fields, small towns and historic Farmville. The 50K is slightly long, described as closer to 32 miles. Finishers cross a bridge at the start/finish; runners may encounter fireflies and moonlight. The course is flat but has extended distances between aid stations. Crew access is available in Downtown Farmville, Tuggle and Prospect.
Aid station layout for out-and-back sections: 50K and half runners reach the first aid station about 5.3 miles from the start in downtown Farmville. Half marathon runners go 1.3 miles farther to a turnaround. 50K runners continue to Tuggle, then Prospect, go 1 mile past Prospect to a turnaround, and retrace their steps.
Runners must carry water; carrying at least 20 ounces is recommended. Failure to carry water can result in disqualification. The event is cupless; portable cups are suggested. The races are chip timed. Time limits: 9.5 hours for the 50K and 5 hours for the half marathon.
