Night Sugar
Night Sugar is a summer evening fell race on Sugar Loaf based at Llanwenarth (National Trust) on 23 June 2026. The course is listed as 5.5 miles (8.8 km) with approximately 1,150 ft (350 m) of ascent. Entry is via Fabian4, entries open 1 May, the field is limited to 140 and entries and transfers close on the Monday at midday; there are no entries on the day. The event has an age limit of over 18 and an entry fee of £7 which includes snacks at the pub after the race.
The route is fully marked and follows a ridge line from the car park, ascending Mynydd Llanwenarth and contouring under the loaf to the Rholben Ridge, then a main northward ascent before passing the summit to the north and joining the Mynydd Pen Y Fal ridge. The return is a fast, mostly grassy descent, with a track left turn to a small stream crossing at Cwm Gwenffrwd and a final stretch back to the car park. The terrain underfoot is mostly close cropped grass and the route avoids rocky and eroded summit sections.
Chip timing will be used with gun to chip timing so recorded times start from the race start signal rather than crossing the start line. Competitors are asked to keep chips and numbers uncovered at the finish to ensure RFID transmission. The upper car park has limited spaces; parking at the pub with lifts up is possible and the road to the car park is narrow and may require reversing. Course records noted for previous years include times of 33:27 (2021) and 37:37 (2012). The plan after the race is a prize presentation and inclusive snacks at the Lamb and Flag pub.
