Night Sugar
Night Sugar is an evening fell race on the slopes of Sugar Loaf, based at Llanwenarth (National Trust). The course is given as approximately 8.8 km with around 350 m of ascent and follows a marked route used in previous years.
The route starts from the car park (grid SO268167) and ascends the Mynydd Llanwenarth ridge. It turns right beneath the Sugar Loaf and contours to the start of the Rholben Ridge, then turns left to a mainly runable ascent. The route passes north of the summit, joins the Mynydd Pen Y Fal ridge, and includes a fast grassy descent. After a sharp left onto a track there is a small stream crossing at Cwm Gwenffrwd, a climb up the opposite bank along the tree line, and a return to the car park. The course does not visit the summit trig point and avoids rocky and eroded sections.
Entries are limited to 140 and close at Monday midday; there are no entries on the day. The event carries an age limit of over 18 and an entry fee of £7 which includes snacks at the pub after the race. Chip timing is used and operates on a gun to chip basis; clothing over a chip or number can inhibit RFID signal transmission. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
