Night Claw - Glen Rose, TX

Night Claw is a nighttime trail race held at Dinosaur Valley State Park with a field staging area outside the park. The course uses dirt and rocky single-track trails and includes a river crossing. The terrain is hilly; the 10K loop shows about 650 ft of elevation gain. Historic nighttime temperatures are reported in the 75-95 degrees range.

Distances and formats offered include:

  • 5K
  • 10K
  • 4-mile special loop
  • 4-hour timed race
  • 6-hour timed race
  • 8-hour timed race

Many distances run on a 10K loop. Aid stations supply cold foods, snacks, water, electrolytes, pickle juice, and ice; separate water stations offer water and ice. Drop bag transport to aid stations is not provided; participants may leave drop bags at the start/finish area. Headlamps are required for all events. A water carrying system is required for all distances with a 16-ounce minimum except for the 5K.

The Claw Challenge is an optional add-on. Participants who opt in receive a unique bib with a tear tag and may be chased by a designated volunteer runner dressed as the Claw. If the tear tag remains intact at the finish the runner is recorded as having beaten the Claw; if the tag is taken the runner is recorded as clawed. Finisher medals, medal add-ons for the Claw Challenge, a tri-blend race tee, podium awards for men and women, and a last-place award for the 8-hour event are listed as event awards.
