Night Claw - Night trail races in Glen Rose, TX
Night Claw is a nighttime trail event staged at a field outside Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, Texas on August 15, 2026. Participants are asked not to enter Dinosaur Valley State Park itself. The event offers multiple race options:
- 4M
- 10K
- 10K Ruck
- 4-hour timed
- 6-hour timed
- 8-hour timed
The course uses Dinosaur Valley State Park trails with dirt and rocky single-track sections and a river crossing. The 10K loop shows about 650 ft of elevation gain. Historic nighttime temperatures for the event period are listed as roughly 75 to 95 degrees.
Safety and gear requirements are specified: a headlamp is required for all events and a water-carrying system is required for all distances (16-ounce minimum except for the 4M). Ruck entries must meet weight rules: 30 lb for participants over 150 lb and 20 lb for participants under 150 lb; ruck sacks or vests are permitted.
Aid stations and water stations are on course; aid stations offer cold foods, snacks, water, electrolytes, pickle juice and ice, while water stations provide water and ice. Drop bag transport to aid stations is not provided; drop bags may be left at the start/finish area.
An optional Claw Challenge is available for an additional fee. Opt-in participants receive a unique bib with a tear tag; a designated volunteer runner called the Claw chases opt-in runners and may take the tag if a runner is caught. If the tear tag is intact at the finish, the runner is recorded as having beat the Claw; if torn, the runner is recorded as clawed.
Finishers receive event medals and a Night Claw tri-blend tee. Standard awards include 1st through 3rd place for male and female in each distance and a last place award for the 8-hour race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
