Night Claw

The Night Claw is a nighttime trail race held at Dinosaur Valley State Park near Glen Rose, Texas. The event takes place in a field outside the park's entrance.

Participants can choose from several race formats:

  • 4 Mile
  • 10K
  • 4-hour timed event
  • 6-hour timed event
  • 8-hour timed event

An optional "Claw Challenge" is available for an extra fee. Participants who opt in receive a unique bib with a tear tag. A volunteer dressed as "The Claw" will chase runners. If a runner finishes with their tag intact, they are considered to have "beat the claw"; if their tag is taken, they are marked as "clawed." Finisher medal attachments are awarded based on the outcome.

The course consists of dirt and rocky single-track trails within the park, including a river crossing. The 10K loop has approximately 650 feet of elevation gain. Aid stations and water stations are available along the loops.

All participants are required to have a headlamp. A water carrying system with a minimum capacity is also required for all distances except the 4 Mile race.

Packet pickup and a pop-up store are available on-site before the race. Awards are given for first, second, and third place for men and women in each distance, with a special last-place award for the 8-hour event. Historic average nighttime temperatures for August range from 75 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit.

Camping and RV accommodations are available nearby. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
