Night Challenge 3: Pier Gates

This is a night mountain running event held on Friday 9 October 2026 in County Wicklow. The route is fully marked and GPS use is not permitted. The event difficulty is rated 7 (Moderate Terrain, 200 m - 500 m ascent, over 10 km).

Two course options are provided:

  • 11 km long course, c.450 m climb
  • 5 km short course, c.170 m climb

The long course includes open mountain and a mix of technical terrain, bog, boardwalk, forest trail and exposed sections. The short course stays off open mountain with forest trail, boardwalk and some technical sections. The long course is open to runners aged 18 or older; the short course is open to runners and walkers aged 14 or older.

Mandatory kit is Level B standard and must be carried. Required items include a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. In addition a headtorch and reflective arm or waist visibility are required. Organisers may carry out random checks and participants without required kit may be denied entry or disqualified.

Entry opens 5 October 2026 and closes 8 October 2026. Entry fees are €7 for seniors and €5 for over 65s and under 18s. Entry is limited to 200 participants. A 15 km unmarked mountain race in County Wicklow visiting four Dargle Valley summits, with 800 m ascent, self-navigation only and Level C mandatory kit; an alternative wet-weather route may be used.

A marked mountain running event in County Wicklow with long and short courses, significant ascent and fast single-track descents. Level B mandatory kit is required and parking is at Cooley Farm with fees donated to a local charity.

A fully marked mountain race in Laragh, County Wicklow on 13 May 2026 with a 9.90 km long route (414 m climb) and a 4.80 km short/junior route; Level B mandatory kit, limited to 200 entries and small entry fees.
