Event overview

The King of the Mountain is a 25-kilometre bush track and fire trail race held at Mt Sugarloaf. The 2026 edition is scheduled for 27 June 2026. The course runs from the top of Mt Sugarloaf down to Wakefield and returns via the same trail. Competitors must be 18 years or older on the day.

Entry, cutoffs and requirements

Entries open in April 2026 with online registration and payment required by 6 pm on the Friday before the event. Check-in on the mountain closes at 11:30 am on race day. Cutoffs are set at 2 hours to the halfway point (Wakefield) and 4 hours to the finish line (Mt Sugarloaf). Competitors must wear the identification bibs supplied and keep them visible at each checkpoint.

On-course support and awards

Aid stations on course provide coke, water and bananas. Professional first aid and medical support are available on course and at the registration desk. Hot soup is provided at the finish. Run finisher medals will be presented to the first three placed men and women at the conclusion of the event. Mystery prizes are also distributed to entrants.
