Event Overview

The King of the Mountain is an endurance event held by Newcastle Cross Country. The course covers a distance of 25 km on bush tracks and fire trails. Participants begin at the top of Mt Sugarloaf, run down the mountain to Wakefield, and return along the same trail to the finish line at the summit.

Participation Requirements

Registration and payment must be completed online by the Friday prior to the event. Competitors must be at least 18 years old on the day of the run. All participants are required to wear supplied identification bibs, which must remain visible at every check point. Specific cut off times are enforced for safety: entrants must reach the half way point in Wakefield within 2 hours and complete the full course within 4 hours.

The event provides several services to support runners throughout the distance:

  • Aid stations are located along the course providing water, soda, and bananas.
  • Professional first aid and medical support are stationed on the course and at the registration area.
  • Hot soup is available for participants at the finish line.
  • Medals are awarded to the first three male and female finishers.
