NAV4 LiAD Recce - Helvellyn to Ambleside

This guided recce covers a section of the Lakes in A Day route from the Helvellyn range down to Ambleside. The route for this session is the third in the series and covers Helvellyn, Fairfield and the descent to Ambleside, including the line from Sticks Pass to Helvellyn and the crucial cut-off at Grisedale Hause. The total distance is around 11 miles with about 6000 feet of ascent.

The session focuses on efficient movement rather than speed, preparing participants for a steady ascent of Fairfield, finding the correct line off the Fairfield summit and the long runnable descent to Ambleside. The revised start point is Legburthwaite, Thirlmere, using the Stanah Stairlift to access Sticks Pass. Organisers note the change reduces distance and ascent slightly and allows use of the public service 555 bus; the bus fare is £2.

The day includes detailed information on the event, clothing and shoe choices, food and drink, navigation and route advice, event strategy and training methods. Transport is provided before the recce from the finish point to the revised start. Places are limited to 12 participants. Entry fee is £55.
