NAV4 Lakes in a Day Recce - Caldbeck to Threlkeld

NAV4 is running a Lakes in a Day recce on 16 May 2026 on behalf of Durty Events. The session covers the first section of the event route from Caldbeck to Threlkeld and is led by NAV4 tutors and guides.

The route includes the fording of the River Caldew, the ascent of Blencathra and the descent of Hallsfell Ridge. After a couple of miles of lane and trail, most of the terrain is remote open rough fell with small grassy wet trods and rocky sections. Total distance is 12 miles with about 3600 feet of ascent and descent, so progress is generally slow on this section.

The day includes guidance on suitable clothing, gear and shoe choices, food and drink, navigation and route advice, event strategy and training methods. Transport is provided from the finish point to the start, with pickup at Threlkeld Cricket Club and the recce beginning at The Oddfellows Arms in Caldbeck. Participants receive a final information email about a week before the recce.

Places are limited to eight participants. Entry fee is listed as £55 and entries are managed through the event organiser. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
