National Trails Day 5K, Rice VA
The 15th running of the National Trails Day 5K takes place on June 6, 2026 at High Bridge Trail State Park in Rice, VA. The start and finish are located at 1466 Camp Paradise Road.
The course is on a rail-to-trail conversion with a wide, level crushed gravel surface and virtually no grade. The route is an out and back that crosses the historic half mile High Bridge.
The event is sponsored by Friends of High Bridge Trail and all proceeds support park programs. Local Farmville businesses donate raffle prizes that are drawn during the awards presentation; all registered runners are entered and must be present to win.
Registration details: online registration is listed at $30 with a price increase after May 31 to $35. Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. If the in-person 5K is canceled, registrations will be moved to a virtual 5K scheduled the same day. Family pricing offers a $2.50 saving per registration for immediate families of four or more when registered in a single transaction.
Pre-race packet pickup is available at Virginia's Heartland Regional Visitor Center and a $5 parking voucher is provided to those who pick up their packet. A $5 Virginia State Park parking fee is collected on-site.
Strollers that are appropriate for running or walking on crushed gravel are allowed; the event may deny participation of strollers it considers unsafe. Pets are not allowed to participate.
Swag and awards include a High Bridge hat for all participants and custom finisher medals for official finishers. Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers and to the top three finishers in each age category, with the top overall male and female each receiving a free weekend cabin stay in a Virginia State Park.
