Big Butts

Big Butts is a trail race presented by the Mississippi Ultra and Trail Society at the Mississippi College Choctaw Trails near Jackson, MS. The event features multiple individual distances and a relay format.

  • 100K individual
  • 100K Relay teams of 2 to 4 members
  • 50K individual
  • 25K Fun Run

The course uses 7.75 mile loops on the cross country Choctaw Trails and Butts Park single track trails. The trail is mostly single track and mostly shaded, with approximately 170 feet of elevation gain per loop and a few small hills. The course surface is not described as technical.

There are two aid stations: a start/finish station and one on the course. Aid station supplies include water, Tailwind sports drink, and food. Awards are given to the top three men and women in each individual race and to the top relay team; there is usually event swag but no finisher medals. An extra prize is offered if a 100K time record is beaten.

Registration fees are stated for each distance and members receive a small discount. Packet pickup is available at Buffalo Peak Outfitters and at the race start on race morning. Safety notes ask runners to carry personal hydration, require check in before late laps, and state that pacers are not allowed except limited accompaniment for safety on final laps.
