Murderkill Ultramarathons - Killen's Pond State Park, Felton, DE
The event offers looped ultrarunning inside Killen's Pond State Park on a roughly 3.10-mile mostly dirt loop located entirely within the park. The loop includes a broad, mostly dirt north portion (sand and organics), a single-track south portion with some roots, an aluminum footbridge of about 0.2 miles, and a 0.28-mile circuit around the parking lot. Total climb per loop is low, roughly 80 feet, and technical difficulty is minimal.
Distances offered:
- 50 miles
- 50 km
- 12-hour event
Races use a picnic area as the central hub. Bathrooms are about 50 yards from the picnic tables; a porta-john may sometimes be available near the boat ramp. Water will be provided. The format is self-supported with a community table for sharing food and drink. Timing is manual by loop check-off and finish recording. The event follows a "Fat Ass" style approach: no guaranteed aid beyond water, no chip timing, no medals, and no standard race services unless specifically noted.
Entrant limits and fees: each race is capped at 30 entrants. Entry is $40 plus signup fees; the fee covers park parking and permit fees, race insurance, water, and early park opening. No refunds, transfers, or waitlists are offered. Remaining funds, if any, are donated to the park.
The park is about 15 miles south of Dover on U.S. Highway 13. The event runs rain or shine except for thunderstorms, which will result in immediate course stoppage and disallowing additional loops for safety. Parking is ample and adjacent to the course. The park is carry-in carry-out for trash. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
