Murderkill Ultramarathons
Murderkill Ultramarathons take place at Killen's Pond State Park in Felton, DE. The event offers three options:
- 50 Miler
- 50K
- 12 hour option
Races use a roughly 3.1 mile loop contained within the park. The loop is almost all dirt with some roots, occasional rocks and light rubble. Elevation gain per loop is low, around 80 feet. The north portion of the Pondside Trail is broad dirt (sand and organic material); the south portion is single track with some roots. A parking-lot loop of about 0.28 miles and an aluminum footbridge of about 0.2 miles are included in the course. Most of the route is shaded and there are places near the boat ramp where runners may cool off in the pond.
The event is run in a Fat Ass style. Races are self-supported with a communal table for shared food and drink. Water is provided but other aid is not guaranteed. Timing is manual; organizers check off loops and record finish times. Each race is capped at 30 entrants. There is no waitlist, no transfers or deferrals, and no refunds.
Entry fee is capped at $40 plus platform fees; that fee covers parking, park permit, insurance, and water. The park has ample parking next to the course and toilets about 50 yards from the picnic area. The park operates under a pack in, pack out policy. The event runs in all weather except thunderstorms; in that case runners will be stopped for safety. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
