Muddy Paws Fun Run 10K and associated distances

The event is a fundraising fun run and walk organized to support Skagit County K9 Units and to help reinstate the Mount Vernon Police Department K9 unit. Since May 2025 the fund has raised $11,450 toward a $20,000 goal for this mission.

Three trail distances are offered:

  • 2.1 miles fun run or walk
  • 5K fun run or walk
  • 10K fun run or walk

Participants are separated into running and walking groups for each distance. The groups are organized at the starting area and released in staggered intervals so runners and walkers can set their own pace. The event does not record official finish times or identify winners; participants may use personal apps or stopwatches for timing. A small number of stopwatches will be available for purchase for $10 at registration.

The course at the Port of Skagit Nature Trails is composed of small gravel, dirt, and grass and typically includes a few puddles. Parking is located at the nature trails parking lot just past the concrete ecology blocks and a flagger will direct traffic. Handicapped parking is available. Well behaved dogs on leashes are welcome; organizers note that vaccinations and flea medicine, especially rabies, should be up to date.

There will be an after party picnic with food and two raffle drawings. Registrations are required for every attendee. Registrations are non refundable but may be transferred to another individual via the event coordinator. Discounts are applied automatically for students and seniors and a military and first responder discount is available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
